Idealized view of harvesting cotton back c.1900. A Picture Puzzle for Old & Young cut by Susan A. Whiting, New Bedford, MA c.1909. Solid wood (with some warping), non-interlocking, cut partially along color lines. Printed on the side of the wagon is "Johnson and Johnson" and on the sides of baskets is "J & J". Note the overlord in the background on horseback. Also note banjo player sitting on basket of cotton. Finally, note the plantation owner's mansion and black workers' houses in the background. Most interesting scene by unknown artist. Print was used in an 1894 advertising poster for the pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson. For the puzzle, company logos were trimmed from the top and bottom. Puzzle would probably be of interest to Black memorabilia collectors. No repairs needed.
