Zag-Zaw series by Raphael Tuck & Sons, 1930's, plywood, interlocking with 36 figure pieces. Tuck didn’t start to make hand-cut puzzles for adults until the first puzzle craze hit in 1908. They started the Zag-Zaw line in 1909 which became the staple of the Tuck product line until December 1940 when their plant was destroyed in the German blitz of London in WW II. All Zag-Zaw puzzles incorporated figure pieces and were sold in plain boxes, usually orange or red, without any guide pictures. In the early years, cutting was a fairly simple non-interlocking style but by 1930's it had become interlocking with “y” shaped (earlet) knobs.
