Description:
Probably cut by a Pastime cutter at Parker Brothers, Salem, MA, this beauty sold through Macy’s is made of plywood, semi-interlocking, color line cut in an elegant curl style with 20 figure pieces resembling Pastime shapes. Scene by R. Atkinson Fox is reminiscent of many of the “escapist” theme puzzles made in the 1930's during the Great Depression. Macy’s Department Store, New York, NY actually did not produce hand-cut wood puzzles but rather contracted out the work to several established puzzle makers such as Parker Brothers starting in the 1930's and continuing well after WW II. Their puzzles were sold in wooden boxes with sliding lids and generally reflect the quality of the firms cutting them.
