In the Valley of Beyond

While most hand cut puzzles are made of solid wood or plywood, some cutters in the 1930's used press board, a less durable material. Bessie Nowell of Bangor, ME compensated for the fragility of press board by cutting thicker long arms and round knobs for her pieces. Here, she used excellent color line cutting, especially around the ornate border, to produce a high quality puzzle out of a gorgeous idyllic scene. Artist is unknown.
