Description:

McCann code LG05.  Non-interlocking die cut puzzle made by Tuco Workshops, Lockport, NY 1930's.  Artist unknown.  Picardy Place is in Edinburgh, Scotland and part of the Leith Walk.
Tuco was a maker of diecut cardboard puzzles in Lockport, NY 1932-1984. They used stronger dies which allowed them to cut thicker cardboard (called upsom board) but only in a crooked line strip pattern. This gave their puzzles a special feel of solidity, much like wood, and a distinct competitive advantage. Later, the company thinned the cardboard and cut knobs becoming just like the other makers of diecut cardboard puzzles.  This may have led to their demise.
