Cut in 1937 by Pastime cutter #38, plywood, interlocking, color line cut, 51 figure pieces. Appealing scene first issued as a Pears Soap print in 1921. Unfortunately, #38 must have had a bad day because her blade was slanted during the cutting process resulting in the pieces only going together from one direction. I have corrected this defect by using a Dremel grinder to grind off from the back the slant on each piece interfering with assembling the puzzle. This does not affect the front of the puzzle, but does widen the cut lines on the back and is highly "labor intensive" and boring. Professional cutters rarely make such a mistake. Thank goodness! Artist is John Collier (1812-1876). The Honourable John Maler Collier OBE ROI RP was a British painter and writer. He painted in the Pre-Raphaelite style, and was one of the most prominent portrait painters of his generation. Both of his marriages were to daughters of Thomas Henry Huxley. Wikipedia.
