Sheep Pasture

This dull looking puzzle was cut in the 1910's and marketed in special box (see top photo) as a Pastime St. Valentine puzzle. The 51 figure pieces (double usual Pastime ratio of 12 per 100 puzzle pieces) all relate to courtship and are laid out in puzzle to mirror each other from top to bottom and side to side. What we don’t understand is why choose a pastoral scene for a Valentine puzzle? Based on scarcity of such puzzles, it was not a commercial success!
