Description:
Burton J. Maddox cut plywood puzzles in Jamestown, NY in the 1930's. He created a rubber stamp of the outline of a mad ox from his last name "Maddox" which he used to stamp the backs of his puzzles and the wooden boxes and trays he constructed to hold many of them. While he did not employ color line cutting or figure pieces, he cut in a highly intricate long/round style akin to scroll, resulting in his pieces being esthetically pleasing.
