Mary, Countess Howe

Catalog Code:
8- 8045
Description:

Heirloom puzzle cut by R. Wallace, Avon, CT; very challenging as knobs are so similar in shape; no repairs needed.

This painting of Mary, Countess Howe (1732–1800) was painted about 1764 by English landscape and portrait painter Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788). It is one of his most striking and iconic female portraits. The countess stands confidently in the landscape, her hand on her hip, gazing directly out of the canvas, as if interrupted in the act of walking. The painting has a long description on Google Arts & Culture.
