Many techniques can be used to make the edges of a puzzle "irregular". In the displayed puzzle, P. H. Sargent of Andover, MA cut the entire border in the same round knob pattern he cut throughout the puzzle. The result makes it impossible to separate edges from inside pieces. Strangely enough, this highly effective technique for enhancing a puzzle's challenge has been little used since Sargent.
