Interlocking, cut by Pastime cutter #19 in 1920's with color line cutting, 18 figure pieces, and round knobs. Artist unknown. The better puzzles tell a story, but the best display a scene which encourages the assembler to finish the story. My story is a true story involving my parents. After my father returned from combat in France in WW I, he and my mother had fallen madly in love. But they could not get married until the oldest sister was married. She never did get married but the middle sister eloped and kept that marriage secret for 8 months. When the truth finally was exposed, my parents were allowed to marry. My mother said that period of waiting was the hardest time of her life. She obviously deeply resented losing that time with my father. In those days, abstinence was practiced until marriage. Every time I see scenes like this, I think of my mother (and father). And I cry inwardly.
