Cut in the 1930's by Par Company, New York, NY as a gift to intended owner, this puzzle is a very early example of use of special technique of cutting out and discarding areas within a puzzle (called "dropouts") so as to create silhouettes of figure pieces. The 3 figures of hearts thus created hold two sections of the puzzle together. The outer edge of heart in center also creates a "dropout-figure", whereas the 2 hearts along the border can be viewed as an early use of the special technique "irregular edge-figures". Par cut 17 normal figure pieces into the puzzle as well, 16 of which form cupids, most appropriate for a romantic gift to one's beloved, and the 17th., the Par seahorse signature piece. A most extraordinary puzzle! Par time: 4:55.
